Sustainability
Water
The property sits on 3 acres filled with flora and fauna. It is fed by a local potable mountain springs and has a self-contained septic system (we don’t flush TP) and we use all biodegradable cleaning products.
Upcoming projects:
Rainwater collection and storage
Sink water recycling
Electricity
All hot water is produced by on-demand mini heaters minimizing unnecessary production of hot water and in turn consumption of electricity.
There is no heating or A/C on the property as it is generally unnecessary and to minimize electrical consumption. It can be a little chilly (55F), but we wear jackets and a little warm (80F) but we have fans.
The property has solar panels that on many months feed more power back to the grid than is extracted.
Earth
Locally sourced food is the name of the game. We have several organic garden beds and are working to rehabilitate these spaces to add to the food supply and foster connection to the earth and our food.
We compost all biodegradable matter to add back to the earth. We have fruit (orange, lime, lemon, guava, avocado, banana…) on the property and use these in meals and share any excess with friends and neighbors.

Sunrise is approximately 5:30 am daily and sunset is around 6:00 pm. This is because Costa Rica is positioned roughly 10 degrees north of the equator, which makes the sunrise and sunset stay fairly consistent all-year-round!

Clean Fresh Cuisine
Our standard menu draws form the abundance of the local fruit and vegetable harvest. Some of the best produce, we've ever tasted! Food sourced from the property, Farmer's Markets, local dairies, and hyperlocal farm fresh eggs

Cultural Awareness and Respect
We strive for respect, honor and reciprocity with the land, the people, and the country where we reside as guests.

Responsible Ecology
We believe that as we take care of the land, the land will care for us. We use all biodegradable cleaning products, recycle as much as possible and compost all organic material.
